Valencia James was born in Barbados, where she first started training in ballet and jazz. Since 2004, she has trained in modern and folk dance in Cuba, at the National School of Arts, in London at Roehampton University and obtained her BA in Dance in 2010 from the Hungarian Dance Academy in Budapest. Valencia has participated in numerous workshops and festivals such as O Vertigo dance company, Ultima Vez dance company, American Dance Festival 2010, and Deltebre Dansa 2012. She presented her own choreography on several international stages including the 13th International Solo Dance Theatre Festival in Stuttgart. Valencia has worked with choreographers including Antonio Gomes, Ian Douglas, Dora Bárta, Béla Földi, Rita Gobi, Kata Juhász and Wim Vandekeybus. Based in Budapest, Hungary, she has been working with the Yvette Bozsik Company since September 2010.
