For a middle class Sri Lankan man with a regular 9-5 job, fear is represented by many things. Some reasonable, some not. Black Mark vividly interprets the 2 faces of fear within one such man, taken to the infamous 4th floor of Sri Lanka’s CID (Criminal Investigations Department - A place where criminals are subjected to intense interrogation) and forced to confront some of the fears that plague him. What happens when fear grips you so hard, you can’t think. You can’t move. You can’t breath. And there is no escape.

Nisal B Guruge is 29 years old and has been in the advertising industry as an Art Director for the last five years. His debut in directing was with a short film on Buddhism which was selected as one of the 4 best films in the Light of Asia International Buddhist Short Film Festival. This is Nisal's 2nd foray in directing, with his newest short film inspired by the community around him. Black Mark represents the feeling of fear that would grip any one of us no matter which walk of life we're from. It interprets the 2 faces of fear from the eyes of one such man, forced to confront one of the many fears that plague him.
