Friss Hús Budapest - International Short Film Festival

2014 Friss Hús Budapest Festival Award Winners

The winners of Friss Hús Budapest short film festival were announced on Sunday evening. The main prize of the Hungarian section was awarded to Réka Bucsi's animation Symphony No. 42. Two special prizes were also given out: the Daazo prize went to Máté Brauner's short film Előbb adtam while Gábor Hartung's short drama Ischler got the acnecom prize. The winner of the international competition is Spanish director Chema García Ibarra's Misterio.

The Jury of the international section decided to award the main prize to Spanish director Chema García Ibarra's Misterio "for its focused vision on an absurd story world immersive from the first shot onward; for its unique take on the mysterious layers underneath the ordinary life of ordinary people; for its fresh approach on rebellion with both a realistic and a mystical twist; for its artistic comment on escaping a society in crisis; and for its quirky and brave sense of writing, directing and editing in the framework of a short format," said Domenico La Porta.

The Jury gave a special mention to the leading actor of Cadet (d: Kevin Meul) Aaron Roggeman. "Amazing at being both vulnerable and violent, young actor made us fear for his character and hope he can free himself from his father. Physical strength and emotional depth created a character who deeply involves the audience. A young actor revealed to us his great talent in a "Cadet" by Kevin Meul. We hope to see more of him in the future," said Katarzyna Klimkiewicz.

The audience prize, based on the audience votes went to Csúszópénz by István Kovács. The award was sponsored by Mozi24 and it includes advertising opportunities in the media outlet of the Sanoma group.

The Jury gave a special mention to Ábel Visky's Játszótársak "for the great direction and a surprising and well-applied dramaturgical twist", to Áron Szentpéteri's Delfinkirály "for the documentarist description of an important segment of current Hungarian reality" and Bálint Geley's animation Otthon "for its balladistic atmosphere".
