Paris, January 2005. Alexandre Hollan’s exhibition in a Parisian Gallery. A travel within light, shapes and hollows. Silent lives ; secret trees ; faces with closed eyes. Alexandre Hollan was born in Budapest, Hungary, in 1933. He lives and works in Paris since 1954. I know him since the 90’s and I gave several kora or sampler concerts for him in museums and galleries. I composed a trilogy upon his work. In « The Other View », I tried to film his work in the same way I live it : like a passage or a silent initiation. The music you hear was specially composed for Alexandre Hollan, with kora sounds combined and edited in a special way.

"Can we accompany the creative act? Can we be here when the source is opened, when the light comes? "In november 2004, I filmed the young Czech artist Filomena Borecká while she was creating a high-dimensioned drawing (named « Transmigration ») in the Courtyard of the Paris School of Fine Arts. "To accompany the creative process with a camera was an old dream. Thanks to Filomena Borecká, I could realize it. We did not speak; she drawed totally freely and I just tried to accompany her, closer and closer. Around us, ancient greek and roman statues were staring at us. Above us, the white, silent Paris sky behind the glass roof. "The only sound was her pencil’s. I knew I was in the presence of a sacred act."
