Unconcealment V / Hanefi Yeter
Unconcealment films are short video portraits of contemporary artists. Unconcealment series, stands out from other films by its image poetry technique which allows the viewer to fully experience the film and enjoy a unique experience such as one would with a painting.
Unconcealment V is a short film about the calling of the artist Hanefi Yeter, filmed in his studio. It is an attempt to see through the eyes of the artist and his mood in the moment of his artistic calling.
Hanefi Yeter was born in Bayburt in 1947. He graduated from Bedri Rahmi Workshop at the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Art in 1972. He has had over 90 solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. His works can be seen in national and international museums and private collections. In recent years, Yeter has made sculptures as well as paintings and exhibited them in Form works, which have been organized in Ankara, Mersin and Denizli.

As KING street went up to many transformation during the time, this transition period was marked by graffiti's which cover all over different surfaces of buildings: doors, windows, walls, stone, iron, glass, wood, etc.

But even if having a long history in street art GRAFITTI'S ARE STILL TABU in many countries: it is art or it is an act of vandalism?

The video expresses this eternal debate: the Mayor's Office commanded the erase of the * scribbles *, but every time one graffiti is washed down another one is painted back all over again and again.
-----------------------This is why I manipulate the video: by reversing the image instead of seeing the disappearance of the graffiti's we see them appearing again.----------------------------
The erased surface creates a new platform where artists put their signature again and also expands their creativity as they have to come up with a new message every time, but this gesture also expresses their resistance against the Mayor's Office decision.

The film clearly and concisely shows why Syrians are fighting for their freedom, told through the emotional words of two powerful characters whose lives have been torn apart by war.
Nour is a schoolteacher-turned-journalist who faces death on the front lines to tell the world about the war. The film’s title is derived from the opening line of the film, when Nour says, “I used to wear fancy dresses and high heels. Not anymore.” Now she wears body armor and a helmet. She is fearless, but lives with the pain of friends who have been tortured, raped, and murdered by the Assad regime. She tells not only her story, but theirs, and in so doing she shows the audience what life is like for a Syrian girl who is spending her 20s in war as everything she loves is destroyed.
Mowya is a young rebel commander who bears the scars, physical and psychological, of seven months of torture. But this hasn’t broken his spirit. With incredible wit he tells his story. With disbelief and sadness he walks the streets of ancient Aleppo, telling of how life used to be in a thriving, vibrant city whose heart, as Mowya says, has stopped. With a great deal of charisma he clearly articulates why the Syrian people are fighting for their freedom.

Slacker’ is the first in a series of short documentary films exploring the inner mind of contemporary extreme sportsmen.
In December 2013 we filmed slackliner Guy Ruyssevelt ‘s walking a line in El Chorro / Spain, whilst also interviewing him during the two days of his preparation and performance on Las Elcantadas.
Guy’s story is unique; he pursues his sport with no interest in fame or glory, he simply loves what he does, but he’s also pursued a lifestyle which enables him to embrace his passion without following the daily grind. We wish to film a number of extreme sportsmen, but again with a focus on how this sport becomes a part of their life and routine. Not all can solely pursue an idyllic quest for the ultimate rush, but many do try to keep the flame burning, even with kids and mortgages.

A tordasi születésű és mai ott élő, az otthonban dolgozó szociális munkás fiatalember 2011-ben egy szociális szakmai továbbképzés keretében vett részt egy filmes tanfolyamon. A videózás, fényképezés régóta foglalkoztatja, de a „professzionális” megközelítést azóta alkalmazza.

A MOSAIC című kisfilm legfőbb szempontja az volt, hogy az elkészített pályamű megfelelően mutassa be az interjúalany által megélt szituációkat, és ne csak egy újabb panaszkodásnak tűnjön. Domszky László, a Mosaic Online, egy fiataloknak szóló hírportál vezető riportereként számtalanszor szembesül azzal, hogy pusztán azért közösítenek ki valakit, mert "más", mert nem a társadalmi normák szerinti közösség tagja. Meggyőződése, hogy csak az az ember közösít ki másokat, aki önmagát nem fogadja el. A hatóság pályázatát kitűnő lehetőségnek találta arra, hogy az általa fontosnak tartott üzenetet -"Mindenkit úgy fogadjunk el, ahogy ő önmagát szeretné elfogadni", egy megfelelő csatornán keresztül közvetíteni tudja a társadalom felé.

A gyöngyösi Deme Rita a lehető legegyszerűbben akarta szemléltetni az EBH pályázatának témáját. Fontosnak tartotta kihangsúlyozni, hogy az esélyegyenlőség témaköréhez hozzátartozik a szellemileg, testileg sérült és az egészséges ember példája, vagy a hajléktalan és a jómódú helyzetpáros is. A Kodolányi János Főiskolán elektronikus médiumok szakirányon végzett alkotó végül a legkisebbek szemszögéből közelítette meg a kérdést. Egy film arról, hogyan tanítjuk meg óvodás korukra a gyermekeknek a kirekesztés sémáit.
A 23 éves újságíró – jelenleg a Cool FM műsorvezetője és Rouge Online munkatársa – hitvallása, hogy egy alkotás akkor jó, ha érzéseket vált ki a közönségből. A PARITY alkotógárdája azon volt, hogy ez megtörténjen!

Közvetlen negatív impulzusok késztették az alkotót arra, hogy leforgassa ezt a témát. Ám nem dönthetett ebben egyedül: filmjének, a SCOLInak főszereplője, lánya mélyen érintett a dologban. Eszternek egyetlen kikötése volt: ne a saját osztálytársai szerepeljenek a jelenetekben. A filmen látható atrocitások megtörténtek, bár nem mind ebben a formában. A főhős a forgatásakor már magántanuló volt, nem bírta tovább. Sajnos az osztálya mai napig úgy tudja, hogy csak és kizárólag egészségügyi problémák miatt történt ez. A Kalmár János operatőrrel közösen készített kisfilm egyrészt szeretné felhívni a szülők, hozzátartozók figyelmét a gerincferdüléses gyermekre. Másrészt pedig mindenkit szembesít azzal: miért is bántja embertársát akár szemtől szemben, akár a háta mögött? Vajon ő tökéletes?
Kocsisné Birkás Edit kétgyermekes anyuka, végzettsége szerint szociálpedagógus. A filmezéssel 2010-ben ismerkedtem meg. Úgy érezte, ez az alkotói tevékenység az, ami nagyon vonzza. Sikerült a tűz közelébe jutnia: nem kimondottan tévés munkakörben, de a Hatvan Televíziónál kezdett dolgozni, végre forgathatott, és meg tanult vágni. Majd a gödöllői Régió Plusz Televízió munkatársaként egy évig szerkesztő-műsorvezető volt. Tavaly ismét váltani kényszerült, jelenleg kollégiumi nevelőtanárként dolgozik egy Hatvanhoz környéki közép-iskolában. De nem telik el úgy nap, hogy ne gondoljon forgatásra, vagy egy-egy felhívást olvasva ne egy kész film képsorait lássa peregni maga előtt…

Király Gyula 58 éves békési kémia-fizika-informatika szakos általános iskolai tanár. A 2010-ben felújított intézményükben fogyatékkal élő tanulókat is oktatnak. A „Krisztián” című pálya-műve elkészítését személyes érzések és tapasztalatok motiválták: 1984-ben született kisebbik fia down-kóros, azaz értelmi és mozgásszervi fogyatékkal él. Nap, mint nap megtapasztalta azt, ami a filmjében is megjelenik. Így azonosulni tudott főhőse, a három éve náluk tanuló Krisztián és szülei érzelmeivel, és megpróbálta azokat a legegyszerűbb, de lényegre törő eszközökkel ábrázolni. Az alkotó régi hobbija a videofilmkészítés. RUFUSZ 56 jeligéjű munkájának üzenete, hogyha már kisgyermekként szembesülünk a mássággal, könnyebb lesz azt elfogadni felnőttként is.

As children, twin brothers Carl and Niels were inseparable, but now that they have grown up they face losing one another. In a poetic farewell ritual or rite of passage that takes place in intimate, dark spaces, they reflect on their bond with one another and how their characters relate to each other. In a mirror, their two faces seem to melt into one, but also flip out of sync when Niels expresses his great desire to be with Carl, while Carl maintains that he doesn’t miss Niels all that much. Declarations of love and pain follow one another. Audible instructions from the director at the beginning of the film make it clear that what we are watching is staged. The young men horse around half-naked in fake snow on a black stage under a starry sky, muse in one another’s arms, paint one another with fluorescent paint in a cave, submerge each other in water and watch butterflies on an illuminated wall. At times accompanied by bursts of accordion music, we occasionally hear wordless song as well. Gradually, the characters and desires of the young men shine through. A film about competition, sharing life, saying farewell and defining who you are without the other.

In this observational diptych, the narrator, Daan Bunnik depicts the struggles of observing the ageing bodies of his parents. The part about his father examines what it does to a child to see the ageing, naked body of his father and the part about his mother addresses the pain of a child to see his mother struggling with her less valid body. In this project Bunnik expresses the difficulties of not being able to avert the ageing process of his parents and having to adapt to and cope with this new situation.

Every summer the students at the Lauder Javne School's "Kibuci Buci" camp help to clean up and restore a Jewish cemetery in the countryside. This camp is for 12-18 year old students of the School. For a week the campers work together in the cemetery, research the local Jewish community's past and visit their synagogue, if it still exists. Over the past 10 years there have of course been new camp participants, still everybody feels that it is a real team and they enjoy belonging there.

In "Water Ways," neighboring villages - one with access to water and one without - offer very
different prospects to their residents. The farmers without water are stuck; unable to feed their families, they turn to work as day laborers. However, working a day job keeps them from solving their water problems. Down the road, villagers have easier access to water and have used assistance from the Afghan government's National Solidarity Program to improve their lives. Unfortunately, tensions could arise between these villages over access to water.

"Bearing the Weight" follows Shafiqa who, not long after marrying at twenty-one, lost her husband, her newly born daughter, and her leg in a rocket attack. The wars in Afghanistan have left some 700,000 disabled. Many - especially disabled women and children - are hidden from view, trapped by their culture. Shafiqa overcame the “paralysis of her soul” and found a way to take care of herself, her two sons, and her community.

He lives what he teaches: that each of us is responsible to use the time we are given wisely. He’s leading the village development council and trying to build a new school. Can Afghan government initiatives, like the National Solidarity Program, provide employment and leadership opportunities for men that instill similar pride in the rebuilding of their communities?

In "Hands of Health," the maternity clinic has been built but there are no doctors and no medical
equipment. Who’s to blame, the Ministry of Health or the Men's Development Council? The Women's Council handed over their National Solidarity Program funds to the men when they agreed to build a maternity clinic. But with it still not open, pregnant woman like Farida continue to make the long trip to Kabul to get medicine and medical advice, including birth control. After ten kids, the father thinks it might be time to stop having children - but says it’s in the hands of God.

In "Searching for a Path," the streets of Kabul are clogged with pushcart vendors of every sort. After the fall of the Taliban, the vendors were left in peace, as there were few cars on the streets. Now they are beaten by the police and chased from corner to corner – unless they pay a bribe. Fruit selling is the product of choice in the fall season because they rot too quickly in the summer’s 105˚ heat. It’s not a profitable living, but in a country with 40% unemployment, the choices are slim. Will these vendors’ children still be facing the same limited opportunities when they seek employment?

The film-makers were right in assuming that a vocal commentary in this story would be absolutely redundant. The entire life experience of the main protagonist is engraved in the wrinkled face of a mother who, despite her old age, regularly covers a 450-kilometre distance to visit her son serving a prison sentence. These moments in a visiting room are all she can hope for to express her feelings: longing, persistent concern, her wise resignation to her lot. The camera follows her daily life in a poor village as she raises her grandchildren, prays, and waits. Will she live to see her son a free man? After all, he still has ten long years to serve.

When his little son, Ntikuma shows him the way, Kwaku Ananse becomes so angered that throws the pot down onto the ground. It bursts open and the wisdom seeps away. Everyone rushes over, hoping to salvage what they can. Nyan Koronhwea returns to her father Kwaku Ananse's native Ghana for his funeral. They had long lost contact with each other. She has mixed feelings about her father’s double life with one family in Ghana and another in the United States. Overwhelmed by the funeral, she retreats to the spirit world in search for Kwaku Ananse. She carries her ambivalence with her into the forest, where she learns the ultimate truth about all human relationships.

Disappearing Old World is a documentary about an expedition to one of the most dangerous African rivers – the River Omo. Rafting down the river, the members of the expeditions were passing tribal territories of the Body, Bata, Bume, and others. Some members already visited Ethiopia for the third time; therefore, they could compare the changes in the life of the tribes, who had led a primitive way of life just a few decades ago. In addition, the documentary shows the part of Ethiopia that will disappear under the surface of a new dam lake in a couple of years.

Document presents a portrait of Pavel Ballo as a father and a husband, who loves his family; nevertheless, he is left all alone as his children have grown up and his wife has left for abroad to work there. That is the reason why he returns to his marmots. The portrait of Pavel Ballo includes his waiting for several days in extreme conditions in the Žiar Valley, where marmots are supposed to dig out of their burrows. While waiting, Pavel Ballo is threatened by not only cold weather and bears but also by dangerous avalanches, which are common in this area at this time of year. Pavel Ballo takes all the risks although he can´t be sure whether his marmots have survived the cruel winter.

Documentary Cinema World tells us story of one of the last village cinemas in Slovakia. Real life stories and memories of local villagers give us a look into history of this cinema and show us its importance. Not only has the viewer an oportunity to be a witness of the cinema"s celebration in the memories of people, but he can also witness the closure of this cultural village temple. Even though the cinema was a significant part of the village for over half of the century, villagers will have to give it their last goodbye. The trigger in this scenario is the digitalization of cinemas in Slovakia. Village Očová decided not to take a part in this action. Unfortunatelly, this means sending their cinema straight to execution. Will the last goodbye carry the smell of sadness or pride? That is the question.

He flew away to a planet where only butterflies live – intelligent beings. Lubos invested his life’s energy combined with his unbelievable empathy into his amateur photograph and film creations. His greatest fascination with nature was the unique study of bats. He attempted to maximize the understanding between human and animal by expressing his fascination for this upside down being. His biggest support in his wanderings, as well as in all areas of his life, was his mother. Lubos’ mother, however, is 70 years old and worries about the future of her son. “What will happen with that kid?” she asks. People who ‘knew him’ thought Lubos was crazy, but only until they saw the film upside down. Now they feel like the crazy ones!

The omnipresent household violence against women remains a taboo subject among the Turkish community in Germany. This documentary by Dobrucki perfectly reflects the atmosphere of danger and uncertainty that affects the protagonist of the film. At the age of thirteen she entered into marriage with a much older cousin and was sent by her family to live with him in Germany. The marriage turned into a nightmare. Beaten and humiliated, she eventually resolves to run away – as far from her home as possible. Even today she has to live in hiding from her husband’s family, for whom her escape is seen as disgrace and betrayal. After all she has suffered, will she be able to pick up the shredded pieces of her reality into a new whole?
The film was produced as part of the ‘Jerusalem – Warsaw – Cologne. The Triangle Dialogue’ programme conducted by Wajda Studio (previously Andrzej Wajda Master School of Film Directing), the ifs International Film School in Cologne, and the Sam Spiegel Film School from Jerusalem, and with the support of the Polish Film Institute and the Nordrhein Westfalen Film Foundation (NRW) as well as the Polish German Co-operation Foundation and the Polish Institute in Israel.

Due its location in a steep valley surrounded by high mountains, Chiatura installed a system of cable cars to transport workers to and from the mines, as well as manganese from the mines to the factories. With deindustrialisation the manganese industry shrank and Chiatura’s population halved, but many of the cable cars still run, establishing a net between the city and its people. The common project of an intramedia artist Nora de Saint Picman, painter, sculptor, video artist, who developed her creative line between Ljubljana and Paris, and children from Vrtec pod Gradom, all diferent ages inclusive. (Enota Poljane, Dislocirani oddelek Poljanska cesta 21, 1000 Ljubljana).
All those videos are combining actual project of children fropm kindergarten painting act (Ljubljana) with past little elements from my own chlildren playing in Paris.
» The idea of a project Color dances came to my mind the very first time, when I brought the son, little Aron Raphael, to Vrtec. At the entrance, on the terrasse fasade, grey flower boxes really called for some creative color intervention. Idea, firstly presented to the madame Cvetka Cimerman, Aron's teacher, was warmly accepted, and consequently supported by Vrtec director, madame mag. Dragica Kraljič. Cvetka suggested also a thematic starting point – multicolored flowers, blossoming in the spring, and we started to work, with the assistance of the entire pedagogic team. The project was accomplished within seven morning meetings, during one year about.
Paintings was partly donated to the sponsors of Vrtec, as well as to the mister Zoran Jankovič, head of the City of Ljubljana. With a great help of madame Mateja Avbelj Valentan, mother of a little girl Nikki and acting director of Ljubljana castle and madame Tatjana Pinoza, exhibition was shown in Casemate.
Project Consonances-color dances was expanded into several levels; presenting also documentary photos of children in a process of creation as well as during one morning educative activities, of a mister Tadej Smogavec, father of a little girl Eva from a group Sunnys.
Video projections are combining documentary records of creative process of big common paintings,
( 6 x 4m, 2 x 4m, several wooden panels, placed on the illumination bancs...), children comments, photos, musical performances, improvisations of my children, (Adrian Samuel - saxophone, Marguerite Voulissa, violoncelle) and mines sur piano, parts of music, listened during creative performance ( Couperin, Dvořak, Italian arias...), works of composer Janez Maticic, poetical texts...But the portraits of children , comparing to the aestetically purified project Dessine-toi/ Draw yourself of french filmmaker Gilles Porte, do not accentuate black-and-white drawings nither priorize psychological aspect of linear creation, but emphasizes the contact of a child with the very painterly concieved colour matter. May be, we can citate, in this context, the common starting point, which was several times taken by authors of modern paintings: » I needed a whole life to learn to do painting like a child«. / Pablo Picasso/
»...children made groups at their own will, mostly in pairs; we have basic colours, red, yellow, blue, which are consequently completed with a second triade, mixed by white..( green, violet...). While coming to te conclusion point, the black colour traces eventual drawing into the fresh colour combinations. We start with the motive of their own choice – a flower, house, landscape, car, with their prior colour, to which others are matching. As the elder children conserve their basic drawing more or less, the youngest are mainly absorbed in the process of painting, color application, gesticulation, color combinations, so they are closer to the process of painting in the abstract and absolute sense by definition and less involved to the mimetical rassemblance to reality. Every meeting is defined also by listening to certain music, which structures the result as well. Materials used are colors for the exterior building walls. »
Installation was completed by some of my ancient videos ( Fluctuations- four seasons) , managed with a program Noraaron9, as created by an exterior collaborator of Avitel company, mister Boštjan Nagode, polyester sculptures ( Priestesses) - a group of woman meditators.

The story is an opera-short-film, a modern take on the story of Saint Joan of Arc. The characters are actors who play victims in staged accidents. In this group of dummies, frail and skinny Johanna is the only one who works with obsession. Her kindness is impossible, and it provokes the others to call her St. Joan. The episode, which is the first scene of an opera triptych, tells the story of bitter and hopeless everyday tragedies, and ends with a surprising twist.

Gulo is a film that explores the line between death and life, visualising the theatrical happenings and settings surrounding burial rituals. Often death is presented as the ending of life, something feared by people. Contrary to this, Gulo shows the diverse approaches to death and reveals the thoughts of people who are directly connected to the passageway between life and death: "death no longer interests me. I wish I had a different life, I want to be on stage.” Gulo is shot in Kutaisi.

Alexandre Hollan was born in Budapest, Hungary, in 1933. He lives and works in Paris since 1954. I know him since the 90’s and I gave several kora or sampler concerts for him in museums and galleries. I composed a trilogy upon his work.
In « The Other View », I tried to film his work in the same way I live it : like a passage or a silent initiation.
The music you hear was specially composed for Alexandre Hollan, with kora sounds combined and edited in a special way.

We did not speak; she drawed totally freely and I just tried to accompany her, closer and closer. Around us, ancient greek and roman statues were staring at us. This is a short clip created for the "micro films for macro causes" film competition on the theme of "Poverty and Social Exclusion", included on the 2010 European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion campaign.
Shoot less than 8 hours, in documentary style, this film aims to be demonstrate that some things that for us might look simple and easy to achieve, might be almost impossible to others.
Simple things like to participate in this contest, requires that the participants know a bit on how to film, have access to a video camera, have access to a computer, know how to read and how to write, have friends to work with, etc..
In order to submit the film to the competition, participants need to have access to the Internet, introduce their names, address, telephone number, email address, etc..
Things that for many still not possible to have.
So we decided to ask those people questions like:
"Do you know how to do a film?"
"Have you ever been to school?"
"What do you need to make a film?"
"What is that you own? What is actually yours? What is the most valuable thing that you have?"
"Do you know how to read and how to write?"
"Do you have friends?"
"Where do you live?"
"What is your name?"
"What is your birth date?"
"Can you give me your telephone number?"
"Have you ever worked with a computer?"
"Do you know what the Internet is?"
"If you win 3000€ what would you do?"
The responses strong, making the editing quite hard.
It was difficult to cut all the footage to get only 3 minutes.
Sometimes we forget that some of the most simple things in our life, are impossible to reach to many.
How lucky we are and how sad this world can be!
Has we won the competition and won 3000 €, we decided to share the prize with those that are in this video.

A media war resulted in four different free morning papers and a new breed of workforce who tried to distribute them to Stockholm commuters. They were called colporteurs - and they were both loved and hated. This film follows four colporteurs during this specific period of time. From what in the publics eye seemed to be a "real shitty job" was for the colporteurs something else. It was a way to meet people, and to get seen. Now they are all gone from the streets. Missed by few. This film is a warm portrait of these people who greeted Stockholm commuters in sun, rain and snow with a "Good morning" and a free paper.

A film documentary of a walk I made in 2008 from Irún, Spain, to the "end of the world" at Finisterre. Some 650 miles (a bit more than a thousand kilometers) in 40 days. From sea level up to 4000 feet (1200 metres) high, and for weeks in constant rain. Met some good folks, locals and pilgrims as well, made a few friends.
I shot some 13 minutes on four KODAK Ektachrome 64T cartridges, used a camera I hadn't used before. And after the film was revealed I realized that the mechanism of the camera was broken, not badly, but the images were quite jerky. So I had to apply some serious depan filters. It still looks jerky at a few points.
The soundtrack is "Secret Garden" from Susumu Yokota's The Boy and the Tree album, it is just perfect. The sequences come almost in chronological order.

The Cine-train is a unique working method, invented by Soviet documentary film-makers in the early 1930s. Film crews were traveling through Soviet Union by the train with specially equipped wagons. Everything they needed for film-making was at their disposal. They were shooting reports, chronics, documentaries and were projecting them all over the country.
Today, new digital technologies make it easier to set up once again this experience.
The "Cine-laboratory on wheels Moviement" is an international workshop for young cinematographers that will take place along the 9302 Km of the mythic Tran Siberian railroad track, from Europe to Asia. During this two weeks adventure, the participants will have the opportunity to experience long train travel, to visit different cities and finally arrive to Vladivostok, on the shore of the Pacific Ocean. Trough the whole trip, the participants will be organized into film cre1ws and will shoot and edit films in a "Road movie" genre, on the theme: "How can we define the European border?"
