Song of the Sand - Ferenc Cakó

Song of the Sand - Ferenc Cakó

One of the most interesting figures of European animation, Ferenc Cakó is a versatile artist who works in unconventional materials like sand, clay, paper, and coal powder. One of his specialities is the sand live animation show, an art form nobody had ever done before him. In these shows, his live drawing in sand is projected on a screen for the audience. Dream-like images follow each other, one forming from the other.

Besides being a performer and celebrated book illustrator, he is also an award-winning filmmaker with a huge number of children’s animations, including paper-cut-out, clay and puppet movies, and object and sand films for adults. He won the Golden Bear for his haunting sand animation Ashes in 1994.
